Looks the character modelling train hasn’t left Fuelled just yet. Here’s another project we did that included a 3D model of a “logo”. Your friendly neighbourhood ink-man in the burgundian town of Bergen op Zoom decided to brush up his shop window with a little character he drew up. He then asked if it could be turned into a digital version for him to be used on, well, whatever he liked. This was no problem offcourse, though it was a bit trickier than expected, it’s a nice representation of what the original pencil scan was.
But wait! There is more, Fuelled is an animation studio is it not? So, to further custom tailer this little project we then turned the pencildrawn-turned-digital-monkey into a 3D-model-monkey! (Yes, that’s a bit confusing but stay with it now)
This 3D monkey could then be used in an animation, online or on -screen or in whatever and in whatever manner the needle boys saw fit. Now, drawing a rabit monkey with a tattoo gun in it’s hand is a skill of it’s own, turning it 3d another. Especially when 3d-laws, or laws in general for that matter, don’t apply when free drawing. So turning the monkey into a 3d clay model had some drawbacks. First of: the angle is impossibru!!! to match for the full 100%. Mainly due to the fact that – if we were to match our model to the sketch – it would have some weird warped face. Which would look good from 1 angle, like the drawing, but would make it look like an modelling accident when the pose would turn 1 degree. Secondly, pencil-faded-gradients don’t apply to 3d-Fur. So, like the digital drawn version, this too would be a representation of the original sketch rather than an exact fit.
